Who we are

Media Stream is an independent news-media platform, functioning in both online and multimedia versions, with a print version coming soon. It is located on Level-4, Samarai Convention Centre 23/G/7, Panthapath, Dhaka-1205.

This policy describes what personal information (also known as personal data) Media Stream collects, how the information is used and your rights to your information.

How we collect information

The types of information we collect depends on the circumstances and the service you are using.

When you use our services, register for a Media Stream account , submit comments or other content, attend one of our events or you otherwise interact with us (such as through social media platforms, our apps or engaging with our sales teams, responding to surveys), we will ask you for information relevant to the circumstances.

We may also collect sensitive information about you – such as personal information concerning your race or ethnicity, political opinions, religion, health or sexual orientation – when it is relevant and necessary, and you have chosen to provide that type of personal information to us. For example, in response to research and surveys.

When you use or receive services from us over the internet, we automatically record information about your use of those services, your interaction with our adverts and our emails as well as information about the device you are using and your internet connection. We use data about what you read, how long you stay on a particular page, how often you visit, when you visit, and the type of device you use.

When you choose to participate in or receive a service from us via social media and similar third party platforms, for example by posting comments, interacting with us, signing up to a newsletter or entering a competition, we may collect information from you directly or the social network may share with us personal information about you depending on the privacy notice and any choices you have on that platform.

We use market research agencies to provide us with consumer insights to help shape programs, products and services.

We also license our brands and content to other companies who produce their own websites, events, products and digital content. These companies are responsible for any personal information they collect about you in this context. Your personal information is not shared by these companies.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

The data collected is mainly used for our content design purposes, with each of our reports tailored towards user preference.

If you sign up for a Dhaka Stream account, the information we can use are:

  • Date of birth and/or age (if we need to verify age)
  • Country (which may be declared by you or determined from your IP address
  • Transaction(s) and/or usage history
  • Communication preferences

Our Lawful Basis:

Our legitimate interests in keeping our records updated, to manage our services effectively, and ensure you have a good experience in using our services, to keep our records updated and to respond to communications you send to us.
Performance of a contract with you when you have bought something from us, registered your account, signed up for our events, entered a competition or taken out a subscription.
Legal obligation for certain statutory accounting and reporting.

We may use the information you provide, or your social media handle, to contact you if we want to find out more, to ask if we can use or share your content or to verify your age.
Before we can accept or use your content, you must ensure you have the consent of anyone else featured. We may ask you to provide your email address to verify your age and that you are the legal parent or guardian of any children who may be featured in the content.
DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION AND OTHER INFORMATION

Media Stream shares your Information with any third party without obtaining the prior consent of the User in the following limited circumstances:

(a) Information shared with Sponsors

Media Stream is not responsible for the Information that you or others choose to disclose publicly on the Website, and neither the Company’s nor others’ use of such Information is subject to this Privacy Policy.

Media Stream may use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit or use the Website or Services. These companies may use Information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits or use of websites, mobile applications, or services, in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you.

Once you leave our servers (you can tell where you are by checking the URL in the location bar on your browser), use of any information you provide is governed by the privacy policy of the operator of the website/app/service you are visiting.

The collection, further use, and/or disclosure of your Information by Third-Party Providers or by other third parties is not the responsibility of the Media Stream.

Furthermore, any personally identifiable information provided by you will not be considered as sensitive if it is freely available and/or accessible in the public domain like any comments, messages, blogs, scribbles available on social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The above exceptions are not exhaustive and will include exceptions available in law as well as otherwise.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Any personal information you provide to Media Stream is kept on secure servers with limited access.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, personnel, and physical measures (a) to safeguard personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized use or access, disclosure, or modification; and (b) to ensure the integrity of the personal information.

We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to do so.

We also have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data security breach. We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so.

However, all security systems have some vulnerabilities and as such lack of interceptions cannot be guaranteed.

If you follow a link to our partner website, which may appear on the Media Stream site from time to time, we do not accept liability or responsibility for their terms of use. We recommend users to check the policies before you submit any personal information to these websites.

Remember that even after you cancel your account, copies of some Information from your account may remain viewable in some circumstances.

5. TRANSFER OF PERSONAL INFORMATION TO OTHER COUNTRIES

Your information mentioned in this Privacy Policy will not be shared with any company which is registered in another country.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Suggested text: If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Suggested text: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Who we share your data with

Suggested text: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Suggested text: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data
